Soda Bread

I like to make this bread whenever I run out of bread, it is so quick to make and utterly delicious
Prep Time: 10 minutes
Cook time: 50 minutes
Allergens: Dairy, Egg, Wheat
Plain wholemeal flour – 250g
Plain white flour – 250g
Bicarbonate of soda – 1 tsp
Butter – 50g
Salt – 1 tsp
Sugar – 40g
Egg, lightly beaten – 1
Milk – 350ml
Lemon Juice or white vinegar – 1 tsp
Preheat oven to 190C (conventional)/ 170C (fan), and line a baking sheet with baking paper of simply dust with flour if you have none at hand
Mix milk with lemon juice or vinegar and set aside
In a large bowl mix together the dry ingredients and rub in the butter.
Pour in the milk mixture and egg and mix using a metal spoon
Place dough onto a floured surface and and shape into a loaf. Be careful not to handle the dough too much as this will result in a tough bread
Place loaf onto baking sheet and bale in preheated oven for about 45 to 50 minutes or until loaf if golden and skewer comes out clean when inserted into the centre.the briead should sound hollow when bottom is tapped
